Wow! What a rich gift of seeing all the green of Spring… we have joked about how we can literally see the grass growing around the Farm. And the grass is so diverse and just plain ‘ole good! Our animals savor the green goodness and also receive the nutritional benefit of vibrant grasses grown in healthy soil. Around here, we choose not to use any chemicals or sprays on anything… nothin’… zilch… nada. None of the stuff that kills “weeds” as well as cause harmful damage to the soil and the living organisms that live and provide valuable nutrients to the soil. Because of this healthy soil, our chickens are a healthy, nutrient dense food, packed with valuable fat-soluble vitamins and antimicrobial fatty acids, the dark meat even contains more minerals than the white meat! Our pastured chicken eggs have: 1/3 less cholesterol, 1/4 less saturated fat, 2/3 more vitamin A, three times more vitamin E, seven times more beta carotene, and more than two times the amount of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation and are thought to have many health benefits including: reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke, helping with hypertension, ADHD, joint problems and skin ailments. Omega-3 fatty acids are “essential” fatty acids. This means that our body cannot make them: we must get them in our diet.
Fresh chicken is available every weekend at our Farm Store, beginning Friday, May 10th & Saturday, May 11th. We raise two different types of meat chickens, the Cornish Rock Cross and the Freedom Ranger.
