I’ve remembered this day since I was in elementary school. We’d usually plant a seed, go for a walk outside, or clean up trash around the school. That’s all well and good, but as we’ve started our own family and made major changes in our lifestyle, I’m learning more and more that Earth Day isn’t a “holiday” to celebrate and acknowledge once a year. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s still important to participate in events that help raise awareness about the continuing problems we face on our planet. Lord knows, we need people to wake up and recognize the world is warming and the only direction we can point our fingers, is towards ourselves.
We’re not perfect people. We have a lot of hopes and dreams of becoming even more sustainable and restorative in our practices (think solar panels and homesteading). BUT, I believe that every little step we take and decisions we make to celebrate Earth Day every day CAN make a difference. Whether it’s directly through our actions or inspiring change in others, we continue to live out what we have learned (and continue to learn) as well as vocalize and educate our findings. Thank you for sticking with us and being a source of encouragement, support AND inspiration for our family!
